Risanaamio said yes to the Joo Challenge and moved to Turku!

Jasir Osman, known on TikTok as Risanaamio, moved to Turku inspired by the 100 x Joo! challenge. For the actor, who had long been rooted in the Helsinki metropolitan area, Turku had remained largely unexplored — until an upcoming renovation of his Helsinki home prompted him to embark on a new adventure.

– It was a pretty impulsive, spontaneous decision. Somehow, Turku just called to me, Jasir says.

In February, Jasir received the keys to his new rental home in Turun Huoleton, a residential building in the Pukkila district of Turku. The move was effortless, as the fully furnished Joo Premium apartment required him to bring little more than his clothes and a few personal belongings.

Moving to a new city called for the same kind of willingness to embrace the unknown that acting does.

– When you're doing improvisation, you always have to say 'yes' when your scene partner offers you something, otherwise the story can't move forward. If you say 'no', the scene dies completely.

Preconceptions About Turku Residents Turned Out to Be Wrong

Back in February, Jasir didn’t know a single person in Turku. Four months later, both the city and its people have become familiar to him.

– To be completely honest, I probably had a bit of a preconception that people here would be more reserved, Jasir admits.

It quickly became clear that those assumptions couldn’t have been further from the truth.

– I did a collaboration in downtown Turku where I was handing out product samples to people. It was wonderful how willing people were to stop and chat. What surprised me most was that people in Turku are actually incredibly friendly!

Jasir also got to know his new neighbours through the Joo challenge when he invited them over for breakfast.

–What surprised me was how 100% on board they were and how quickly they became my friends. It was such a wonderful and unexpected experience.

Jasir has also become friends with Aram Behbodi, who was recently named Turku Resident of the Year. Together, they spent what Jasir describes as the perfect day in Turku.

Carefree Rental Living

A grocery store, fitness facilities, and a bus stop are all located nearby. However, Jasir’s favourite spot can be found in the heart of Turku.

– It’s honestly the river. It really lives up to the hype. There are all these restaurants along the waterfront, and those are some of my favourite places to spend time.

So, what was the outcome of the Joo challenge? Did Turku win him over?

– Absolutely. Summer in Turku won me over, especially the atmosphere around the river. It’s incredibly beautiful! Jasir concludes.
