What’s it like living in Joo Kodit in Turku? Social media personality Heidi Ylimartimo shares her top picks around her new hometown.
Social media entrepreneur Heidi Ylimartimo and her partner found themselves working in two different cities. As a result, they decided to set up two homes: one in the Helsinki metropolitan area and another in Turku.
– This has honestly been really lovely, though I was initially a bit worried. Sure, all the travelling can get tiring, but I can reach the train station in 15 minutes from our home in Turku and take a direct train to Helsinki. It’s brilliant being able to get back the same evening.
The couple has now lived in their Joo Kodit rental apartment in Turku’s Pukkila neighbourhood for two months. Their new hometown has been a pleasant surprise.
– I keep going on to my husband about how beautiful Turku is and how incredibly open and friendly the people are here. I often end up chatting away with a neighbour in the middle of a hectic workday, and I absolutely love that!
A home true to Heidi’s social media style
Originally from northern Finland, Heidi has made a name for herself on Instagram under the handle @heidiylimartimo, where she shares content on fashion, beauty and travel. She’s also on Tiktok under the same name. In addition to creating content for her own channels, Heidi works with businesses and offers coaching on personal branding.
As Heidi often works from home, having a functional and comfortable apartment is a top priority. As someone with a keen eye for aesthetics, she particularly loves how light and bright her home is. The extra services in the building are a welcome bonus.
– Living in Joo Kodit has been genuinely carefree. We were looking for a second home in Turku and wanted the process to be simple and smooth, and that’s exactly what it’s been. Having a gym, laundry room and sauna all under one roof is amazing, and the Joo Kodit staff and our neighbours have been absolutely brilliant!
6 questions: Share your top picks, Heidi!
1. What's your favourite spot in Turku?
– This is a tough one as I don't really know Turku so well yet, but of course I love the riverside. The city centre in general is super beautiful in summer.
2. What do you like best about the Pukkila neighbourhood?
– Definitely the wonderful jogging routes!
3. What's your latest purchase for your home?
– A gorgeous giant mirror from Lasitehdas, which lots of our friends have marvelled at.
4. What are your favourite pastimes?
– We usually watch TV, and I like going to the gym or out for a walk. I also enjoy making videos, so I do that quite a lot too.
5. How would you describe your ideal day at home?
– An unhurried morning with a good cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast, then a warm shower followed by watching my favourite TV series under the quilt. Just taking things slow, no plans or timetables.
6. If you could invite anyone for a sleepover, who would you pick?
– This is challenging, as there are so many options, but I think I'd probably go for my sister. If it has to be someone well-known, then I'll say Sointu and Topi Borg. I find their stories really inspiring.
