Sonja’s Kirstinpuisto: A green and easy place to call home in Turku

Sonja, a rental agent at Joo Kodit, has called Turku her home for five years. During that time, she lived in different parts of the city and gained a broad perspective on its neighbourhoods — until she found her clear favourite and settled in Kirstinpuisto. What makes this new residential area so appealing?

Kirstinpuisto suits many lifestyles

Kirstinpuisto is a relatively new neighbourhood in Turku, gradually growing into its own small community just on the edge of the city centre. Many are drawn there by more affordable rents and a calmer pace of everyday life — but end up staying for many other reasons.

Kirstinpuisto has a kind of idyllic feel to it, because people in many different life situations live there peacefully side by side. As someone who also rents out apartments, I’ve noticed there isn’t just one type of person moving in. There are families with children, young students, seniors, flatmates, and plenty of pets. There’s something for everyone, which makes the area feel very homely, Sonja says.

Shops and parks right on your doorstep

Greenery and outdoor spaces are a key part of Kirstinpuisto’s identity, and plenty of attention has been given to small green areas in the urban design.

Last summer, when I had a lot of free time, I spent my days lying in the park reading. You can sunbathe there, and many people come by to walk their dogs, Sonja describes her favourite spot.

Kirstinpuisto offers everything you need for smooth everyday living and leisure time. A large grocery store, gyms, a playground, and a dog park are all within easy walking distance. Sonja also gives special mention to the wide range of fitness classes and services at Saippua Center.

Just a 15-minute walk to Turku city centre

Getting around is easy, whether you prefer walking, cycling, driving, or public transport.

When I moved to Kirstinpuisto, I didn’t have a car and was a bit worried about getting to my office on the other side of Turku. It turned out to be a positive surprise — there are really good bus connections from here. You can also get around easily on foot or by bike. It’s just a 15-minute walk to the city centre.

A growing area with a bright future

Kirstinpuisto is constantly evolving — and that’s part of its charm. Sonja describes it as a modern and dynamic place to live, still undiscovered by many.

I was really positively surprised by the area, and I’ve truly enjoyed living here. It’s great to see how it keeps growing and new things are constantly being developed.

New services, restaurants, and commercial spaces are gradually emerging, while residents build their own sense of community.

I would recommend Kirstinpuisto to anyone who wants to live close to city centre services but appreciates the peace of a smaller neighbourhood and values smooth everyday living, Sonja sums up.
